THE life of a renowned blues bassist will be celebrated in a charity tribute night.

Southampton musician Peter Plascott, a staple instrumentalist in numerous blues and country outfits from across the south of England, lost his battle with lung cancer last month.

Now to raise funds for charity Cancer Research UK and remember the former Millbrook Boys School student, musicians from across the city will join together for a night of blues music.

Peter, 67, played in numerous bands throughout his life, including the Bob Pearce Blues Band, the Dirt Road Blues Band and Bob Howard and the Southern Roots.

Friend and fellow musician Paul D’Souza, 66, who worked as a decorator with Pete, said the evening of music would be a fitting tribute for the influential musician.Paul, 66, said: “I’ve known him for years and we went to school together, were in bands together and worked together.“We both had cancer at the same time, but only I came through.“Peter had a lot of influence on the blues scene in Southampton and everyone liked his playing.“He was a honest person who liked an ale and had a real dry sense of humour. “He would come and visit me when I was ill and I would see him. He played in so many bands, everyone knew Pete.” He will feature in opening band Kelly’s Zeros, which also includes musicians Christ Newman, Mick and Rob Williams and Sid Carter. Other performers are guests perfor ing throughout the night are vocalist and slide guitarist Bob Pearce and singers Andy Graham, Ray Nash and Bob Still.

All proceeds from the evening will go to the cancer charity.

‘Performance for Pete’ takes place at 8.30pm on June 21 at The Talking Heads, in The Polygon.Tickets are £6 on the door and begins at 8.30pm.
