A MAN facing debts and disciplinary action at work killed himself after breaking up with his girlfriend.

The body of David Cutts, 31, was found in the driver’s seat of his Ford Focus in a layby on Southwick Road, near Wickham, by his brother-in-law Barry Ottley on the evening of February 24.

Mr Cutts, of Wood Green Avenue, Havant, had broken up with his girlfriend after an argument at her home three days beforehand.

An inquest heard that as Mr Cutts stormed out of the house he said he was going to throw himself off a bridge.

Concerns were raised for Mr Cutts’ safety after his brother-in-law was told that Mr Cutts was staying in his car on Portsdown Hill.

Winchester Coroners Court heard how Mr Cutts had debts of £25,000 and was facing disciplinary action at Greggs, where he worked as an assistant manager, at the time of his death.

Senior coroner Grahame Short said: “It is just sad that he did not feel he could talk to his family about the break up with his girlfriend which proceeded this or the other stressful factors in his life,”

Mr Short recorded a verdict of suicide.
