A SOUTHAMPTON city centre street has been cordoned off after a man suffered a serious head injury.
The man, 40, was injured during an incident on Lower Banister Street, behind Bedford Place, at 12.30am today.
He was rushed to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.
Police say they are trying to ascertain the cause of the injury.
They are down at the scene carrying out enquiries, including sweeping the area for CCTV footage.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said officers are near the car park between Lower Banister Street and Salisbury Street.
The spokesperson warned of traffic delays as a result of the police cordon.
People are being advised to avoid the area if possible.
