THE Straight Mile in Romsey was shut after an accident, with police working alongside fire crews at the scene.

A four-car crash yesterday closed the road, though no-one was trapped.

Firefighters from Eastleigh and Romsey attended the scene along the road, with Hampshire Police.

Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 4.28pm to reports of a collision on the Straight Mile near Ampfield.

"A Volvo, Mercedes, Honda Civic and a fourth vehicle were involved.

"The road is currently closed in both directions and diversions are in place via Jermyns Lane and Halterworth Lane."
