HUNDERDS of residents battled it out in Hamble as a popular event returned.

There were canoeists, kayakers, stand-up paddleboarders, swimmers and runners of all ages at the River Hamble Games on June 16.

Dozens of people also enjoyed a cycling competition with timed head-to-head races on stationary bicycles while live music entertained residents on the foreshore.

The biennial event was organised by the River Hamble Games Committee, made up of residents from local sports clubs.

Jason Scott, marine director and harbour master, said: "Despite the weather everybody turned up and we had lots of smiling faces. People between six and 86-years-old were involved and it was great to see them coming together. This was an opportunity for everybody to get involved in sports activities and we hope we have encouraged more people to keep fit."

The Harbour Master Charity Pursuit Race also took place during the day, with runners raising more than £500 for Parkinson’s UK.
