A HAMPSHIRE pub is undergoing a six-figure revamp which will create 10 new jobs.

The Shamblehurst Barn in Hedge End has closed for the refit, which will improve the sports viewing area, the bar and the garden.

New sound systems will be installed in the sports viewing area along with three new multiple screens, which will be in addition to the existing three.

Meanwhile, the bar area will be given a modern look with contemporary tiling.

The Hungry Horse venue will also have an improved drinks range with additional cask ales.

The company has not revealed the cost of the revamp but it confirmed it is a six-figures refit.

Kieron O’Donnell, general manager at Shamblehurst Barn, said: “Shamblehurst Barn is at the heart of the local community, so we want to provide our guests with even better surroundings to enjoy a great selection of drinks and schedule of sporting events throughout the year.

“We’re really excited to get the refurbishment under way, and look forward to welcoming our Southampton neighbours to the revamped venue.”

The building was converted in to a pub from a barn and first opened in 1979.

Derek Pretty, borough councillor for Hedge End north and cabinet member for economy, said: “The Shamblehurst Barn has for many years been popular meeting place and this investment will only enhance its popularity. I am also pleased than an additional 10 job opportunities are available. I wish them continued success in the future.”

The will pub will reopen on June 27.
