CYCLING across the Solent helped raise money for and awareness of the fight against prostate cancer.

A static bike onboard the Red Funnel car ferry, Red Osprey, was put through its paces by the fundraising team and members of the public who joined in.

The team consisted of six members of the Interact Club of Cowes, four Rotarians from Vectis Sunrise and two Rotarians from Cowes.

The object was to cycle round the perimeter of the IW in the time it took to cross the Solent four times — or two return crossings. For every five minutes' pedalling, a peg was put on the IW map.

The team reached its target and raised £225.30 for the St Mary's Hospital prostate cancer scanner appeal. This will be topped up to £400 thanks to a donation from the Rotary Club of Cowes.

The team said: "Thanks to all passengers who gave so generously and to Red Funnel for giving us the opportunity to hold the event."
