YOUNGSTERS from Girlguiding Isle of Wight strapped on their cycle helmets when they took part in a fundraising challenge.

They rode the Newport to Cowes cyclepath as many times as possible and registered their efforts on the Bicycle Island app.

The youngsters pedalled a total of 2,859km raising a total of £772, half of which was match-funded by ferry company Red Funnel.

Money raised from the challenge will be used to pay for the 'New Programme' book for guides. It is due to be launched on July 21 and covers six sections: Know Myself, Express Myself, Be Well, Have Adventures, Take Action and Skills for my Future.

As part of the new programme, Girlguiding Isle of Wight leaders are hoping to organise an adventure camp in the not too distant future. Guides have thanked Bicycle Island, Red Funnel and all those who took part in the challenge.
