A LANDLORD has promised to fix a "dangerous" loading bay after residents voiced their anger. The loading bay on North East Road has been out of bounds for more than two years, according to residents.

And as reported they say it's making the road dangerous, with lorries parking on the pavement and in front of their houses. Now the landlords - Goodwill Homes - have told the Echo the loading bay will be fixed "within the next few weeks."

But resident Melanie Barfoot says it has taken "too long" and called on local councillors to do more. She said: "We've been waiting for years. I've got no faith in them at all. I do everything a proper person is supposed to do - I put my bins out, pay my rates - and they let us down 100 per cent.

"I'm frustrated that the council haven't done anything. I'll believe it when I see it. I do everything I'm supposed to do as a resident."

Sholing ward councillor Graham Wilkinson said: "I would disagree with the resident. We have done everything we possibly could. It's private land. The whole thing has been stalled from day one by the landowner."

A statement from planning company on behalf of landowners Goodwill Homes said: "Goodwill Homes have been working for some time to finalise the construction details for the lay-by but have had to agree the necessary works with the Council’s contractors. The process is now drawing to a conclusion and we hope that the layby will be renewed within the next few weeks."

A spokesperson from One Stop added: "We are well aware of it and we have been chasing the landlord for a number of weeks. There are some complications with cables underneath. It's not our responsibility it's the landlords responsibility."

Southampton City Council said: “We recognise that there have been ongoing delays with the delivery of the work but underground services have to be diverted before the layby can be resurfaced. We will continue to work with the developers to get this matter resolved.”
