A HAMPSHIRE attraction is celebrating the success of a new cafe-on-stilts that aims to beat rising sea levels.

The Lookout, which has replaced the previous cafe at Lepe Country Park, has done a roaring trade since it opened a few weeks ago.

The glass-fronted complex, which includes a new visitor centre, is due to be officially opened next Tuesday.

It has been built as part of a £2.9 improvement scheme at the park, which also boasts better paths, play equipment and toilets.

The opening ceremony will be performed by Cllr Andrew Gibson, who oversaw the improvements until he stepped down as the county council’s executive member for community, culture and recreation earlier this year.

Cllr Gibson will be joined by Stuart Moralee, chairman of the Friends of Lepe group, and a number of volunteers.

Also present will be representatives from the M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), which contributed £850,000 towards the transformation of the park.

After the guests have toured the restaurant, children from nearby Blackfield Primary School will assemble near the new-look children’s playground.

The ceremony will conclude with the planting of a Maritime Pine, a tree that can cope with clifftop conditions.
