A MAN was attacked with a piece of wood during an attempted robbery that took place near a Hampshire sports complex.

The victim, in his 20s, was walking along a path between Ringwood Health and Leisure Centre and Manor Road when he was confronted by two men who demanded money.

Police say he was struck on the back of the head by an object believed to be a piece of wood.

After the victim said he had no money on him the men fled empty-handed, running back along the footpath in the direction of School Lane.

One is described as white, between 5ft 10ins and 5ft 11ins tall, slim, with short brown hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt with dark blue jeans.

His accomplice was white, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall, slim, with short dark hair. He was wearing a dark top and dark bottoms.

The attempted robbery took place on Wednesday between 9.10pm and 9.20pm.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident. They are particularly keen to speak to a cyclist who was near Ringwood School and may have seen the men leaving the area.
