POLICE are hunting for a wild bird killer after a heron was shot to death with 'an air-rifle or BB gun'.
The heron was killed on Saturday at a pond in Hartley Wintney, north Hampshire.
Police believe an air-gun or BB gun was used to kill the bird.
Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it is illegal to intentionally kill, injure or take any wild bird.
Officers say the incident took place around 8.15pm at Causeway Pond on Cricket Green.
Police are particularly keen to trace a dark grey, C-reg Ford Focus that was seen in the area at the time.
