A SOUTHAMPTON man has died after being hit by a train near Fareham.
British Transport Police officers were called to Gudge Heath Lane just after 6pm on Monday night after reports that a man had been struck.
Officers have now confirmed that despite efforts from South Central Ambulance Service, that the 27-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation has now been launched as to how the man was hit by the train.
A statement from the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the tracks near Gudge Heath Lane, Fareham, at 6.12pm on July 16 after a report of a person being struck by a train.
"Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended, however, a 27-year-old man from Southampton was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
"His family have been informed and we continue to make enquiries as to how he came to be on the tracks."
A hazardous area response team, an ambulance and a rapid response car was sent to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead.
