IT has been described as a traditional village-style pub.

But the Roll Call in Butlocks Heath offers customers a lot more than traditional English food.

Landlord Shaun Quirk and his wife Rosaline said the pub “really caters for everyone” with many residents flocking to the venue each week to enjoy traditional Indian curry.

Mr Quirk, 48, from Southampton, said the curry was popular among customers, home-cooked by the chef Tracy Vann.

He added: “Our chef has travelled all over the world and she gained a lot of knowledge of Indian food so curry has become one of our specialities.”

But he said that roast, lamb liver and bacon were popular too.

Customers can also choose from a selection of specials every day.

“It changes daily, just based on what we’ve got on the day. This is what our chef insists on. She doesn’t want packaged food,” Mr Quirk said.

And added: “People can taste the difference. There are so many chains around and you don’t get a personal touch. Our meals are made individually and there’s lots of love that goes into them.”

A selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals is also available, along with a children’s menu.

Mr Quirk said the pub had become a hub for the community, and live music events were run only on bank holidays.

“People come here for the atmosphere and to relax, we don’t really need live music events. The pub is somewhere people can relax. We are losing village-style pubs,” he said.

And added: “The pub belongs to the community, we are only looking after it. We worked hard to be a nice, cosy pub and make sure it is at the heart of the community. Me and Rosie are always here. People like to see the landlord and the landlady around.”
