IT'S one of Southampton's most important city centre developments - and now you can see it from the sky.

The aerial pictures were taken to show the latest phase of the work at Southampton's Bargate Quarter - the £100 million replacement of the city's former Bargate Shopping Centre.

As reported by the Daily Echo, the development by Tellon Capital will feature 24 retail and restaurant units, five retail areas, accommodation for 451 students, and is set to create 200 new jobs.

Now images from a drone camera taken from above the development show a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the foundations of the old Bargate Shopping Centre.

But they also show the city’s skyline – from the top of the ancient stone gatehouse, south to the Solent, north across the city’s parks, and towards the Itchen.

The views stretch to the western docks and east to the Red Funnel terminal down Southampton Water.

The 400,000sqft development has been designed with the iconic Bargate and the city’s medieval walls in mind.

Developers say the historic wall complex will become part of an “exclusive retail” development, attracting “aspirational” shoppers and the 2.8 million visitors who pass through the city’s port and airport each year.
