SOUTHAMPTON residents are fuming after a car stuffed with junk has been left outside their properties for months.

Those living in Rowlands Walk said a black Peugeot stuffed with chips, a mop, a hoover, a hula hoop, two TVs, plastic bottles and several bin bags has been parked outside their homes since December 2017.

They said the car was initially parked in the car park in Rowlands Walk and was mysteriously moved down the road on Sunday.

The angry residents said they contacted the council, the police and the fire brigade numerous times asking for the car to be removed, but the vehicle is still there attracting dozens of flies since the temperatures rose.

Now residents are calling for action to be taken as soon as possible before somebody is hurt.

Adie McDonald, 35, unemployed, lives at the housing estate off Rowlands Walk.

He said: “It’s absolutely disgusting. I’m angry. We don’t know what’s in there, if there are drugs, needles and there are lots of kids around here. It’s dangerous for kids.”

And added: “The council and police are not listening to us. They can find out who is the owner and do something. What are they waiting for? They should have taken that away ages ago. We are fuming over it. It’s only a matter of time before somebody gets hurt or an idiot put it up on fire and it will be a disgrace.”

Residents said council officers put several notices in the car over the past few months.

Donna Parr, 44, admin officer, also lives in Rowlands Walk, and added: “I pay my council tax to have services and efficiency and at the end of the day I’m disappointed that when I need them do to something they don’t do it. What am I paying for? All I want is the car to be removed.”

Both Hampshire Police and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said the issue will have to be dealt with by the council.

A spokesperson for Southampton City Council said: “Parking services are aware of the vehicle, and have passed the information on to their contractor to remove it.”
