POLICE say no further action will be taken against two men arrested as part of a murder inquiry in Southampton.
Officers launched a major investigation after Jason Gregory was caught up in a brawl at Vernon Walk on the night of May 5-6 last year.
Mr Gregory suffered serious injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he died five days later.
A police spokesman said: "Hampshire Constabulary launched a murder investigation and as part of that arrested two men.
"A 27-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 44-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
"In consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), no further action will be taken against them."
The spokesman said an inquest into Mr Gregory’s death would be held on a date to be fixed.
The emergency services rushed to an alleyway between London Road and Winchester Street following a fight involving up to 15 people.
Shortly after Mr Gregory's death his partner, Melanie Stacey, said: "Jason was a good, hard-working family man and a father to four."
