AN "ARROGANT" teenage motorbike rider who powered through a busy Southampton street at speeds of over 100mph was caught out by his own helmet cam.

Dennis Kuzmenok was caught travelling at 105mph along Thomas Lewis Way in Southampton and speeds of over 120mph along the M3 in Hampshire.

But the 19-year-old from Southampton was caught by police following a crash with a taxi in West Quay Road last year.

Officers seized his GoPro, attached to his helmet, at the scene and later found incriminating footage of him speeding days earlier.

Yesterday, Kuzmenok, of Kent Road, Southampton, was disqualified from driving for 15 months for dangerous driving.

It followed a two day trial at Southampton Crown Court.

During a two day trial, the court heard how Kuzmenok came to the attention of police after the collision with the taxi on West Quay Road on November 12.

He was travelling with a female pillion passenger, who suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision, in which Kuzmenok's bike into the back of the taxi.

Officers seized his GoPro, which was attached to his helmet, as part of the investigation into dangerous driving.

The footage revealed he reached speeds of up to 120mph along the M3 northbound, just four days earlier, on November 8.

That footage also showed Kuzemenok travelling at 105mph along Thomas Lewis Way.

While the speeds shown on the speedometer are slightly higher, the court was told that its accuracy was out by eight per cent, so the speeds were reduced to reflect that.

This was enough evidence to summons him to court for dangerous driving on two counts and the jury was unanimous with their guilty verdicts.

He was sentenced to a 12 month community order, to carry out 50 hours of unpaid work and disqualified from driving for 15 months, with an extended re-test.

During the sentencing Judge Burrell described Kuzmenok as “arrogant” and said he had showed “little regard” for the safety of others.

After the sentencing PC Richard Miell, from the Joint Roads Policing Unit, said: “This shocking footage clearly shows just how dangerous his riding was.

“Travelling at high speeds on any roads is incredibly reckless, but to do it on Thomas Lewis Way and the M3, two major roads with heavy traffic, showed total disregard for others and put not only his life at risk but the lives of other innocent road users.

“I hope it comes as some reassurance to the public that this dangerous rider is no longer a risk on our roads.”
