A LORRY burst into flames causing traffic chaos on a major Hampshire road.

Part of the A326 near Calmore is currently shut due to the blaze, which started around 2.45pm today.

About 20 firefighters from three fire stations helped tackle the blaze.

Crews from Ringwood, Romsey and Eastleigh were sent to the fire, under the Loperwood bridge.

Both the A326 and Loperwood are currently closed.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one jet and two hosereel jets to fight the flames.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the stop message came in at 3.35pm.

He added that the lorry was "50 per cent damaged by fire".

Meanwhile, police are on scene, directing traffic.

Totton Police tweeted: "Please be aware that there is a large vehicle fire on the A326 under the Loperwood Lane bridge and as a result of the smoke the A326 and Loperwood Lane will be closed until further notice.

"Please plan your journeys accordingly."
