EASTLEIGH’S longest-serving player can see the ‘Green’ shoots of recovery after a frustrating start to the Spitfires’ Vanarama National League campaign.

A late collapse against Solihull Moors and a dubious penalty decision at Sutton United left the Stoneham Lane club empty-handed after the first two games.

But fans’ favourite Michael Green feels Eastleigh can head confidently into tomorrow's home match against Bromley (7.45pm), buoyed by Saturday’s excellent 2-1 win at Barnet.

Green grabbed all the headlines at The Hive with a superb strike from distance – his first league goal in three-and-a-half years.

But the 29-year-old left wing-back reckons the foundations for the Spitfires’ breakthrough victory were built firmly on the back three of Reda Johnson, Andrew Boyce and summer signing Alex Wynter.

Speaking after the game, Green said: “It’s starting to feel good, I think we’re looking quite solid now.

“The three lads at the back are brilliant and they were quality again today.

“We should have got some points from the first two games. We looked good in the first game, but threw it away in the last 15 minutes.

"But it’s coming together and we can push on now.

“We can only take confidence from the win today.

“The fans always show us great support, singing from the beginning to the end, so we just want to thank them as well.”
