SHOLING will be US Portsmouth-bound in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday week after a convincing 3-0 victory at Knaphll.

With Dave and Marc Diaper away on holiday, Iain Calder took charge of the team.

And it was business as usual for the Boatmen with their dynamic frontline duo of Lee Wort and Dan Mason (2) firing them through.

It took just four minutes for Wort to break the deadlock, coolly latching onto Jake Hoole’s pass and side-footing the ball past the onrushing keeper to maintain his goal-a-game start to the new campaign.

It remained 1-0 at half-time, although Wort twice went desperately close to scoring again when he smacked the crossbar and had an effort cleared off the line.

The Combined Counties Premier hosts were rocked again at the start of the second half when Jamie Bulpitt was fouled in the area as he tried to poke home the rebound from Mason’s parried shot. Mason did the honours from the penalty spot.

Then on 59-minutes, the lethal No9 struck again with a deftly flicked back header from TJ Cuthbertson’s corner – his sixth goal in three games.

Sholing substitute Billy Connor burst through and almost scored with his first touch, only to be denied by a decent save from Keiron Green in the Knappers’ goal.

The free-scoring Boatmen return to action on Friday (August 17, 7.45pm) when they visit newlypromoted Christchurch in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

AFC Stoneham’s first ever FA Cup adventure continues.

Tim Cole’s side face a replay at AFC Portchester tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) after a 0-0 draw at The HP Arena.

Baffins Milton Rovers, also on their maiden voyage in the competition, brushed Tadley Calleva aside 3-1 through Ashton Leigh, Blu Boam and Max Davies.

It sets them up with a preliminary round date at home to Hartley Wintney on August 25.

Horndean were even more convincing winners as they caned Godalming Town 5-0 at Five Heads Park.

Harry Jackson and Zach Glasspool fired the Deans 2-0 up before Liam Kimber weighed in with a hat-trick.

Sholing’s next opponents US Portsmouth also celebrated a nap hand of goals, dismantling Andover Town 5-2 at Burnaby Road.

Mark Cotton, Mig Dark (2), Callum Glen and Harry Potter scored for Portsmouth, while Josh Bertie netted both Andover goals.

Bemerton Heath Harlequins have earned themselves a preliminary round trip to reigning FA Vase holders Thatcham Town The Wiltshire outfit edged an all-Sydenhams Premier tie 1-0 against Cowes Sports at Western Way.

Jamie Smith netted the late decider for the Harlequins.

A Bashley side devoid of three key players never fully recovered from going two-down in the first eight minutes of a disappointing 2-0 FA Cup exit against Bournemouth.

Poppies could not believe their luck when Micky Finch and Steve Flynn headed in identical goals when left unchallenged just a few yards short of the line.

After the initial onslaught, Bashley regained their composure but found the strength and organisation of the hard-tackling visitors a tough nut to crack.

Bashley’s Jason Collins was by far the busier keeper as Poppies continued to apply pressure.

The home cause was not helped when an over-exuberant foul by Bashley’s Brad Strickland was deemed dangerous and worthy of a red card.

Poppies’ next FA Cup stop is away to Evo-Stik Southern League outfit Winchester City in the preliminary round on Saturday week.
