A HAMPSHIRE charity wants more volunteers to help revamp a Southampton school.

Totton Random Acts of Kindness (TOTRAK) club will be giving Calmore Junior School a makeover today.

The school approached the renovation charity asking them to help with restoration jobs over the summer before the children return to school.

A team of 20 volunteers will be helping to pick litter from the school field today, as well as revamping their outdoor learning area and revitalising the school garden.

TOTRAK has previously been involved in initiatives including gardening, litter picking and providing umbrellas and a helping hand to shoppers in the rain.

The charity is keen for extra volunteers to get involved in the project.

Rosemary Lethridge, a coordinator at the charity and governor at Calmore school, said: “It is down to all of us to look around at our community and give back when we can.

“We wanted to take on this project as we believe revamping these facilities will help to enhance the children’s learning experience.”

The charity provides the public with opportunities to volunteer on their projects without the need to commit regularly.

Rosemary said: “Fewer people are volunteering these days as they can’t regularly commit to giving up their free time.

“At TOTRAK we understand that people are busy, that is why we allow our volunteers to help on projects as and when they can.

“It is a fantastic system as it means people can give back to their local community on a schedule which suits them.

“If anyone else wants to help out next week, we would really appreciate it.

“You will need to bring your own packed lunch but hot and cold drinks will be provided, and if it is a nice day we may even throw in the odd ice-cream or two. Bring your own gloves and any tools that you might have.”

For those keen to get involved, the revamp will take place today, 10am to 3pm.
