THIRTY motorbikes flocked to a Romsey club to attend the town's first ever bike night.

The Comrade Club welcomed a total of 28 motorcycles and riders through its doors in a successful first night on Monday.

Acting bar manager of the Comrades Club Colleen Jackson, 26, and long-time motorcyclist Keith Hibdige, 62, organized the event to bring local bikers together.

Colleen said: "I have recently taken over as bar manager and wanted to think of new things to do during the week.

"My parents were once keen bikers and I thought a bike night would be a great event on a quiet Monday evening to help bring people in.

"The facilities are perfect, we have a huge car park and it is relatively cheap.

"I was really worried about the weather but I am so pleased with the turn out."

The club offered bikers discounted drinks and meals as well as time to socialise with old friends, new faces and like-minded people.

There was also a £20 prize for the winner of "Best Bike of The Night" competition.

Mr Hibdige runs his own local bike night at The Crown Inn, King's Somborne, on a Wednesday night and its popularity is what inspired Colleen to host her own.

Keith said: "I have been riding since the 1970s then broke off from the scene in the 1980s so I could get married and start a family.

"Then about 10 years ago I got back into biking.

"I helped get this bike night off the ground after Collen saw how successful mine is at The Crown Inn."

The meet marked the start of a weekly event to be held every Monday night from 6pm-9pm.

Cullum Cunningham, 20, Kwik Fit employee of Totton has been riding two-wheels since he was 16.

The twenty-year-old said: "I was worried I would be the only Learner Plate bike here but everyone has been very friendly and welcoming regardless.

"I'm quite impressed with the turn out."

Miss Jackson is now hoping to organize a biker fun-day for bank holiday Monday, August 27, and is looking to land a live band to front the event.
