THOUSANDS of students across Hampshire and Southampton are getting ready to open the envelope on their future.

Today (August 16) is A level results day and thousands of young people across the region will know whether their grades are good enough to get them into university.

Now one Southampton school is already celebrating as leaders say this year is their best yet.

Paul Overton, head at Bitterne Park Sixth Form, said: "Hard work really does lead to success with our students achieving the best ever set of results since the college opened seven years ago.

"I cannot fault the hard work, commitment and drive of the students achieving results this year, and I know they will all go on to incredible achievements on the next stage of their journey. I would like to wish them all the best of luck in whatever the future brings."

Southampton's two universities are already ready to offer advice to this year's intake of students.

Solent University is offering advice on clearing via phone - or via web chat, email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp. And their team of student ambassadors, academics and admissions experts are on hand to help students through the next few days.

Southampton University say they will have a "warts and all" service on offer for potential students - who can chat to current students to find out what life is like on campus.

Last year Hampshire the overall figure for Hampshire showed 99 per cent of pupils getting A-E – with many students also earning strong results for advanced level technical and general applied qualifications.

Southampton students were jumping for joy with an overall pass rate of 97.9 per cent – up from 97.3 per cent in 2016.
