THEY rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic and raised £100,000 for charity in the process.

Now the Ocean Brothers – Jude Massey and Dr Greg Bailey – are preparing to share their memories with the public for the final time.

The Lymington duo are giving a talk at the luxury Chewton Glen Hotel in New Milton on November 17.

Greg and his 19-year-old half-brother made the voyage in aid of the British Skin Foundation, which is funding research into skin cancer.

Lymington businessman Peter Massey– Jude’s father and Greg’s stepfather – died aged 63 in 2015 after battling the disease for 16 years. He was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma at the age of 49 and underwent an operation, but the cancer returned and eventually entered his skull.

As his condition deteriorated he lost an eye and became so disfigured he lacked the confidence to leave his house.

Greg and Jude made their 53-day trip from Gran Canaria to Barbados in a 20ft boat named after him.

During their epic voyage they suffered several setbacks, including a capsize, multiple equipment failures and injuries caused by round-the-clock rowing.

After recuperating in Barbados they returned to the UK aboard the P&O cruise ship Britannia and later received a hero’s welcome at Lymington.

Matthew Patey, chief executive of the British Skin Foundation, said: “We’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Greg and Jude for all their hard work, both the gruelling row and the relentless fundraising.

“The massive amount of money they have raised will go specifically to skin cancer research to find treatments and cures for the future.

“We’re sure Peter would be very proud.”

The Chewton Glen event will feature a presentation by the Ocean Brothers followed by a three-course lunch and a charity raffle.

A hotel spokesman said: “The brothers will lead you on an exciting and visually stimulating experience. The adversity they faced gave them a new outlook on life.”

Greg, 28, said: “This will be the last chance the public has to hear us speak about the adventure.”

Tickets cost £75, with £10 from each sale going to the British Skin Foundation.
