THIS is the new photo of Lucy McHugh which detectives hope will help bring the murdered teenager’s killer to justice.

The 13-year-old Redbridge Community School pupil was found stabbed to death at Southampton Sports Centre on the morning of Thursday, July 26.

Since then Hampshire Constabulary has launched an exhaustive investigation into her death.

This includes sifting through 15,000 hours of CCTV footage from more than 250 locations, collecting more than 900 items and receiving more than 200 reports from members of the public, some of whom helped search for a weapon.

Additionally, more than 250 officers have so far been involved in the probe.

The constabulary has even enlisted the help of the National Crime Agency, while charity Crimestoppers has offered a £10,000 reward for information leading to her killer’s arrest and conviction.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder but police are continuing to appeal to the public for any information that might help.

As part of that effort, the Daily Echo has devoted its entire front page to a leaflet that police staff will be distributing to members of the public.

It contains a new picture of Lucy, supplied by her family, which accompanies this article.

Detective Superintendent Paul Barton said: “We know that Lucy walked with purpose up Wimpson Lane and Coxford Road after leaving her house on Wednesday 25 July.

“The big question is: what happened to Lucy after 9.30am?

“Maybe you have been away on holiday and seeing our officers in the area today will jog your memory.

“Did you see Lucy and was she with anyone?

“It’s never too late to get in touch - your piece of information, however insignificant it might seem, could help us find Lucy’s killer.”

Officers have released a significant amount of information about Lucy’s outfit and whereabouts on the day she is thought to have died.

Lucy’s funeral will be held at Hollybrook Cemetery on Bank holiday monday.
