WOODFORD Green Athletic Club's Anthony Sawyer took gold in the South of England Indoor Pentathlon event in Bedford at the weekend.

Brothers Chris and Daniel Awde both took bronze in the U20 and U15 events respectively.

Woodford remain in second place behind London Heathside in the Metropolitan Cross Country League with one event to go.

Despite Stuart Maxwell (pictured) finishing tenth in a large field and club mates Matt Flannelly coming home in 15th and 55-year-old Bill Wootton finishing in 26th spot Woodford were unable to improve on their current league standing.

While the ladies team dropped one place to third, the girls U15 team reversed that by moving from silver spot into first.

It was a Woodford one-two with Linzi Snow coming home in first place, closely followed by Jessica Sparke.

The U17 men's team remain in third, following good placings from Tom Snow in fourth and Mark Burgess in sixth.
