A SOUTHAMPTON primary school is able to show its parents how marvellous their children are at a click of button.

Kanes Hill Primary, part of the Inspire Learning Partnership, has launched a new ‘Marvellous Me’ app to tell mums, dads and carers about their child’s school day.

This 21st century method of communication has already proved really popular with 94% of parents now engaging with the school this way.

Deputy headteacher, Katie O’Grady has overseen the introduction of the app and said: “We know that when parents ask their children how their school day has been they are often greeted with a ‘don’t know’ or ‘can’t remember’.

“Marvellous Me is designed to make parents feel more involved with their children's learning and development.

“Via this app we’re able to let parents know when their child has done something really well at school and we can even send award badges via the app.

“It is really an effective way to make parents and carers smile and glow with pride, breaks down communication barriers and engages everyone.”

Teachers will use Marvellous Me, an app that was invented by a dad called Adrian Burt, throughout the week as a virtual learning postcard that is sent home.

Notes are kept short for maximum impact, and teachers can even add worksheets and date-stamped homework via the app.

Kanes Hill and Inspire Learning Partnership can send its wider communications home via the app as well.

Chief excutive of Inspire Learning, Claire Lowe, said: “As a trust one of our main priorities is for all our schools to work hand-in-hand with parents and carers.

“A successful partnership between a school and parents is essential for giving children the best possible education.

“Kanes Hill has added an innovative and popular way of communicating with its parents and it’s proving to be very marvellous indeed.”
