Euro Garages seeks consent for Burger King outlet at Totton Service Station

Civic chiefs are being urged to reject proposals to create a 24-hour fast food outlet at an Esso garage beside the Asda supermarket in Ringwood Road, Totton.

Town councillors are pressing New Forest District Council to refuse the application.

The scheme has also come under fire from people living near the site. They say it will increase the “chaos” caused by a nearby level crossing which is closed to vehicles for a total of 20 minutes every hour.

Objectors include Ringwood Road residents.

In a letter to the district council one says the crossing often causes a tailback which stretches as far as the mini roundabout beside the garage.

They add: “I already have to deal with discarded food wrappers and waste being thrown outside my home. This development will exacerbate what is already a massive problem.”

Another objector said: “Ringwood Road is an extremely busy road. I can only imagine that a drive-thru takeaway would have a huge impact on the amount of vehicles travelling through the area.

“I believe there will be a huge increase in litter in neighbouring streets, leading to an increase in vermin.”

The scheme, which will create six jobs, has been submitted by Euro Garages Ltd.

Its application says: “The company’s business model is centred around a mixed-use arrangement of complimentary facilities which provide for the needs of passing motorists.

“The proposed development has been subject to careful consideration to ensure the application represents a suitable scheme in keeping with the site and its surroundings.

“Within the drive-thru lane there’s sufficient space for vehicles to queue without backing up on to the access road serving the Asda car park.”

A decision is expected to be made next month.
