The Southampton Tyro entertained Portswood United Under 16s at Crestwood School. The match was highly anticipated and Portswood had previously got the better off Southampton Tyro last season with a 2-1 win.

It was Portswood United who started the better of the two sides, with a "lucky" half way line strike, with Hicks unable to judge the flight of the ball, landing in the top left hand corner. But It was Tyro who responded with chance after chance but unable to break the inform Portswood defence. Finally, a lovely ball played down the Right from Dunne to Pemberton, saw Pemberton launch an in swinging cross into the path of Woodford who headed Tyro into an equal match. After many more chances arising, Tyro found Portswood keeper Hewes in fine form, pulling off a few cracking saves.

Tyro came out of the dressing room, all guns blazing and thoroughly deserved the second goal. A solo effort from Mansell, running down the left saw the ball placed past the keeper to put Tyro in front. Portswood later found the equaliser, after only, their second attempt on goal. The striker, beating three of Tyro's defenders, coolly placed the ball past second half keeper, Bosman.

Deep into injury time, Tyro scored the winner, after Woodford grabbed his second. The ball came in from Brown, and Woodford had three attempts to put the ball away, luckily, the final attempt crept in under the keeper.

These was Tyro's most convincing performance of the season so far. The team spirit, the determination finally paid off, and Tyro were well deserved winners. This was a team performance and no individuals can be named. The whole team played magnificent. Right from the keepers to the defenders. Dixon and Plummer had an outstanding game at the back, shielding Tyro's goal. Dunne, Merrick and Coen played a massive part in the win. The inform midfielders of Fellbrich, Hutching sand Tongs proved vital with the wingers; Pemberton, Brown and Merrick also impressing. And the three guys upfront; Mansell, Petley and Woodford never gave up.

All credit to Portswood, a side which went unbeaten in the league last season and are currently unbeaten this season, were a credit to themselves and their respected league.

Manager Dan Wilson said at the end of the game, "this result was fantastic. The boys really fought hard for this victory".
