TWO friends are planning a fundraiser in aid of a Southampton based mental health clinic.

George Beard, 22, and Chris Kellaway, 37, are taking part in a 630 mile walk around the South West coast for Antelope House which has had funding cut.

The duo both received mental health treatment from the hospital which adds to their incentive to raise funds.

So far, the gofundme page for the fundraiser has reached £430, with the duo aiming to raise £5000.

George said: "We are both currently unable to work as we are still working on our recoveries which has been a long journey which is why we're doing this long walk to represent how long our recovery is and how far we've come.

"Antelope house offers a safe place when you're in your darkest days and also gives patients the opportunity to start psychology and occupational therapy also 1 to 1 time with your carer for the shift. "The help we received is the reason we're both still here and want to repay them the only way we know how."

George and Chris will be averaging 20 miles a day starting in Minehead Harbour and travelling around the edge of the south west coast before finishing in Poole.

George's mum Lisa Croome, said: "In their darkest moments they found a friendship in each other and formed a bond so strong that they now regard each other as brothers.

"I am so very proud of how far they have both come.

"This walk will be as tough for their mental health as well as their physical health.

"It's an amazing thing Chris and George are doing raising much needed funds for Antelope House.

"What a thank you from the heart for the staff there, plus a powerful reminder how vital mental health facilities are".
