AN arson investigation has been launched after a home was set on fire near Gosport last night.
Gosport fire crews were called to a semi detached house in Beryton Road, Forton shortly before midnight where they found that the front door was ablaze.
Firefighters, wearing breathing sets, carried out an immediate search of the building but there was no one inside.
The incident happened at about midnight and police were called in. The house was declared a scenes of crime area and officers carried out a forensic examinations.
Door to door inquires were also going in the area and the police and Hampshire Fire and Rescue's arson task force were today continuing their investigations.
A police spokesperson said: "The fire is being treated as suspicious and inquires are on going."
