SOUTHAMPTON would be a much happier city if every parent had one of these.

That's the view of Marty Climenhaga who loves riding her 'Mum-mobile' family cargo bike around the city.

It's a new year takeover of our weekly platform for petrolheads by cycling enthusiasts.

We're signing over Me and My Motor to the bike lobby for today, learning about their take on their beloved bikes and their environmental benefits.

Marty told the Daily Echo: "I love my family cargo bike. It can carry two kids or one and a load of groceries!

"I bought my fantastic Mum-mobile secondhand, but the people I bought it from got it from Kids and Family Cycles, a company in Christchurch that specialises in family cargo bikes.

"My son's grown out of it and is now on his own bike (or a Tag-Along when we go longer distances), but I have fond memories of cycling through the city centre parks to the shops, and around the Common to get nap time started - much more fun than a pushchair or car - with major benefits for my waistline!

"If every parent had one of these, Southampton would be a much happier city."

Another cycle enthusiast, Jonathan Bingham prefers his Surly Big Dummy to a car.

"It is cheap to run and can carry a large load," he said.

He's even planning on buying a VW Transporter to carry his beloved bike.

He has had to drive up to 300 miles for work as a sales rep in the past, but there's nothing he loves more than cycling on nice smooth tarmac on the Surly Big Dummy with its 2 metre long trailer.

Jonathan's favourite car he has owned is a Toyota Prius, but his dream vehicle is a Velove Armadillo electric cargo bike.

He believes the way a car or bike is driven "says a lot about the owner and how they are willing to interact with other road users."

Do you believe your bike is better than any car?
