THE wheels are in motion for this years bigger and better Blissfields 2008.

Organisers Paul and Mel Bliss have managed to secure a place for their award winning family friendly festival at Matterley Bowl, just outside Winchester.

This is a big step from a 1,000 capacity affair in their back garden at Bradley Farm, as now there is the potential to draw in a crowd of 5,000 fellow lovers of local, unsigned and signed acts.

The couple said they are negotiating hard with some great bands to headline main and support stages for the event, which runs from Friday July 4-Sunday July 6.

"We are pleased to announce that we have booked The Wonder Stuff to headline the Friday night. Expect something a bit dancey for the Saturday and hopefully a big up and coming name for the Sunday," said Paul.

As well at The Wonder Stuff, so far other confirmed acts include: Imperial Leisure, Subgiant, Modernaire, Pistola, The Jacks, Subsource, The Beat Maras, Andy Comley, Blisskrieg, Nathan "Flutebox" Lee, Captain Phoenix, Lazy Habits, The Subliminal Girls, Chriss T-T (band and solo), Ruth Theodore, Red Eye Banquet, Skuba and Life at The Pines.

A new website for the festival is due to launch on Friday February 1 which coincides with the tickets going on sale.

However, the existing website does have some information on it. Visit: www.blissfields.co.uk or www.myspace.com/blissfields.

The Winchester Massive, run by Rob Ball, is running a local showcase at Blissfields this summer and will be on Stage Thrice on Friday July 4 between 5pm-10pm.

Rob will feature the best talent Winchester has to offer.

Already confirmed are JayetAl, Caesura, Loose Caboose and The Ashbies, but there are still two spots up for grabs.

Rob will be holding the 'Road to Blissfields' competition at The Railway Inn, in Winchester, on Thursday 3 and Thursday 10 April to decide which two bands will take the spare slots.

He is looking for 10 bands to take part, all members must be aged 16 or over and from the Winchester area.

Entrants can email robball@winchestermassive.co.uk.

The deadline is Friday February 15.
