TWO women from Southampton have been killed in a car crash in the county.
The pair were in a blue Renault Clio travelling in Basingstoke when they were in a head-on crash with Renault Laguna.
The accident happened on the busy A30, on a stretch of road between Kempshott roundabout and Sainsbury's roundabout, last night around 4pm.
The route was closed for several hours while the scene was examined and vehicles recovered.
A 59-year-old woman driving the car and her 79-year-old passenger, both from the Shirley area, died after the crash.
A 33-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed until March.
Officers in the Farnborough roads policing unit are investigating the fatal accident and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 0845 045 4545.
