Disabled sailor says thanks for help on epic voyage

HAMPSHIRE sailing hero Geoff Holt is to hold a day of celebration in thanks to everyone who helped him complete his groundbreaking personal "Everest" challenge.

Geoff sailed into the record books in September when he became the first disabled person to singlehandedly circumnavigate the British Isles. To thank all the people who helped him complete the epic 109-day, 1,600-mile voyage, Geoff is hosting a special event at Hedge End's Botleigh Grange Hotel on March 8.

The event, organised by Hamble Valley Rotary Club, will be split into two parts.

From 2pm to 5pm, members of the public are invited to join Geoff for an open day featuring sailing displays and presentations from Geoff, his wife Elaine and members of his team. Then, from 7pm onwards will host an invitation-only dinner.

All proceeds will be put towards RYA Sailability.

Geoff's achievements have earned him a nomination for the Raymarine Yachtsman of the Year as well as the prestigious title of BBC South Sports Personality of the Year.
