A Saints-supporting couple are celebrating a wedding with a difference after tying the knot on match day.

Lifelong Saints fan Nigel Crook married Charlotte Davis at the home of Blackpool FC on Saturday afternoon.

The happy couple, who live in Hamble, said their vows at midday in front of several friends before celebrating with a reception in the hospitality lounge at a windswept Bloomfield Road stadium.

Charlotte, 42, said: "We were going to get married on February 29 in Southampton but we wanted to do something a bit different!"

Saints season-ticket holder Nigel is head of IT covering Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and Cornwall for Daily Echo parent firm Newsquest.

Nigel, 44, said: "I usually go to half-a-dozen away games a season and a few of us always make a weekend of one of them.

"This season Blackpool was the obvious weekend away so we decided to coincide it with our wedding!

"No-one who was coming knew about the plans until the week before and some didn't even know until Friday night. Even our families don't know yet!"

Charlotte, 42, said: "It'll be a nice surprise for our four children when we tell them!

"We'll all be going on a family holiday to Majorca together at Easter as our honeymoon."

A Blackpool FC spokeswoman said: "We've had several weddings at the ground in the past but none on a match day.

"It was an unusual request, especially as the couple are not Blackpool supporters, but it was one we were happy to grant. It's been good publicity for the club and I'm sure it will be the first of many weddings here on the day of a game. We've already had other requests on the back of this."

Nigel and Charlotte drew the half-time raffle before watching Saints earn a valuable point for a 2-2 draw.
