Troubled TV presenter Mark Speight has today been found dead, it has been revealed.

The 42-year-old BBC children's TV presenter was discovered at a remote part of of Paddington Railway Station, British Transport Police said.

The circumstances surrounding his death are subject to an ongoing investigation by British Transport Police, but police can confirm the deceased was not struck by a train.

Officers investigating the death are to examine CCTV footage from the station, and said they are currently treating the death as unexplained.

Miss Collins was found dead on January 3 from boiling water burns and a drugs overdose in the bath of the north-west London flat she shared with Speight.

The presenter told police the couple had been "partying" and had taken cocaine and sleeping pills as well as drinking wine and vodka.

He was initially arrested on suspicion of murder and supplying Class A drugs, but last month Scotland Yard said he would not face any charges over the death.

Mrs Speight looked drawn and gaunt when he attended her inquest just six days before he went missing.

He had been planning a tribute concert in memory of Miss Collins, his best friend said.

The presenter was captured on camera entering Queen's Park tube station in north-west London at 2.25pm on Monday afternoon.

He was last seen 22 minutes later boarding a southbound Bakerloo Line train heading towards the centre of the capital.

Mr Speight was reported missing after failing to keep an appointment to meet his dead fiancee's mother for coffee in Covent Garden at 3.30pm the same day.

Before going missing Mr Speight, famed for presenting BBC children's TV art show Smart, had been living at Natasha's mother Carmen's house in North London.

Jan Kennedy, of Billy Marsh Associates, Mr Speight's agent, said news of his death had come as a shocking and distressing blow.

"We are absolutely devastated at the tragic news of the loss of Mark and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family as well as the family of his beloved fiancee, Natasha, whose equally tragic death had effected him so inconsolably," she said.

''Caring and compassionate in everything he did, Mark was truly gifted in life and we are proud to have represented him as a friend and client for almost twenty years.

''He was blessed with a remarkable personality, great artistic talents and the wonderful warm ability to communicate those skills with people, especially children of all ages.

"With his sensitivity of spirit, coupled with his dynamic presence and natural enthusiasm he was loved and respected by his adoring family, friends and colleagues everywhere in the media."

A spokeswoman for Carmen Collins, Natasha's said she was devastated that Mr Speight's body had been found, and asked for time to grieve in peace.

Very sad and such a waste. He was actually a very talented presenter. I don't doubt that he took drugs as well, but if she wanted to ruin her life taking multiple drugs then that was her choice, she knew the risks. I had hoped that in time he would have learnt to live with her death and found a way to move on and turn his a life around.
It's just such a shame..

Sad but avoidable. he was a very good natural presenter and full of enthusiasm for his Smart Art shows - quite an inspiration to youngsters.

On the other side - just part of the trendy 'cool' lifestyle that is awash with all kinds fo so-called 'recreational' drugs.

Some recreation for the unlucky ones. Pity the poor families and friends torn apart by the results.

It wont stop though - most druggies think they are invincible and it wont happen to them.

Risk is part of the attraction - I guess it's just our human failings?

At least they had the money to throw at the scummy dealers who supplied them. Quite removed from the street junkies who need to rob anybody else to maintain their CHOSEN lifestyle.

No sympathy from me I'm afraid,. A self inflicted and avoidable double-death. The guy was coked off his face even while presenting....both of them were a pair of drug fuelled simpletons who should have set an example to the children they performed to. Apparently her coke habit was so bad it ate into her septum....if that's not a warning sign that you have a drug problem I don't know what is!

Sad for their families but inevitable by the sound of it.

What sentimental twaddle.

Many people lose the love of their life

They still have a life and should make the best of it. It's what we are all about.

There is an element of blame attached to this sad story. Self-inlicted misery with two more victims and family/friends affected by yet another waste of lives.

I'm also sick of the Diana Syndrome with each and every reported death of locals or well known people.

I bet there will loads of flowers left at Paddington Station this week. Sad sad people

Eh ?

His girlfriend died while they were both stoned. Drugs are getting glamorised too much - this is the sort of thing they lead too.

They had a choice as to whether to get involved. Mark had a choice about his subsequent actions. I merely hope that others don't make the same choices.

Rubbish, he knew she had a serious drug problem, instead of helping her, as any loving partner who cared would do, he stood back and let her overdose and die a painful death in a bath of scalding water. What we are seeing here is a dose of guilt. Two wholly preventable deaths, sadly by their own volition.

If he cared that much, he would have encouraged her to get of the coke, not party all night on a coke and drinks binge.

I have no time for idiots who take illegal so-called party drugs, mix them with copious amounts of alcohol then have idiots like you advocating for them.

If these were two junkies found dead in a filthy squat, would we be seeing the same headlines ? Poor Mark, Poor Natasha ? No of course not.

The drug culture they were part of has been glamorised because its deemed as 'acceptable' and part of the scene if you work in the media.

no I'm not saying that, she did take it too far...clearly. My comment was not related to Natasha and Mark, it was specific to the fact that recreational drugs are used by a lot of people who manage their lives without any problems.

No matter how much you rant about it, the fact won't go away that thousands of people you would deem respectable (and who probably are) use illegal drugs.

As you have said in your previous post, if you dabble with drugs, alcohol and sleeping pills you are asking for trouble, no denying that. They were foolish

I am far from naive about the whole recreational drug culture...you are ill informed and clearly advocate that it's ok to use cocaine and other drugs by justifying it with 'bankers, lawyers, police officers use it' Well that makes it ok does it ? No it doesn't.

I work for a charity that routinely deals with individuals and their families who suffer the direct and indirect consequences drug abuse. There are no excuses, no setting in which it is acceptable to take illegal drugs, no matter how glamorous it's portrayed by the media. I see broken families and deaths with monotonous regularity, so far from naive, I am informed enough to make valid comment on the subject.

You are the naive one with your ill thought out and contradictory comments. These two did take it too far, as you say in your post, some people do. Actually matey, thousands of people overdose everyday, they know the risks, they choose to end their lives prematurely. Perhaps you are one of those people?

Oh really? Just goes to show you have no idea how common place recreational drug use is. Before writing off everybody who uses coke you should look around and see who uses it....yes you get the scummy users who take everything too far (just as you do with alcohol and tobacco) but there are also lawyers, police officers, stockbrokers, financial advisers, bankers and various middle class professionals who use cocaine. They are some of the people that make the world go around. I know you are a troll but you are also a muppet. All the people ranting about drug users on this site need to take their blinkers off I'm afraid.
So what you are saying is that Natasha didn't take things too far ? Errr, she's dead or did you miss that bit ? Are you a complete idiot or doing a good impression of one ?
no I'm not saying that, she did take it too far...clearly. They were foolish My issue is tarring everybody with the same brush. You are being unbelievably naive about the whole culture. I'm not supporting what they did, they were obviously in a bad way and were not thinking straight. Are you a complete idiot or doing a good impression of one? Stop ranting about a subject you obviously have no idea about
I am far from naive about the whole recreational drug culture...you are ill informed and clearly advocate that it's ok to use cocaine and other drugs by justifying it with 'bankers, lawyers, police officers use it' Well that makes it ok does it ? Perhaps you are one of those people?
you still miss my point Kim, I am not advocating anything. I have not said anything like 'it is ok to do illegal drugs'.

The strength my argument has is that I am not loading my argument with personal opinion, unlike yourself.

I have not contradicted myself either.

The fact that you work with a charity which sees the negative effects is interesting. You must realise, the sort of people you will come across are bound to be the worst cases, where things have got out of control. This is making you far too bias to have an intelligent debate.

If you worked with Alcoholics Anonymous you would no doubt be spouting a load of dribble that all alcohol is bad and that nobody should ever drink etc? Or wouldn't you? Maybe it is you that would end up being the talking contradiction. If alcohol causes a lot of damage and misery (which is does) do you also assert that "there are no excuses, no setting in which it is acceptable to take alcohol, no matter how glamorous it's portrayed by the media"? Do you??

The legality of it all is largely a historical technicality.

You are clearly letting emotion and personal opinion cloud an argument that can't possibly be as simple as 'thou shalt not take drugs'.

If you are willing to try and see the 'other side' of an argument then please continue with the debate, if not, shut up.

Have another look at all of my posts and tell me what led you to assume I am unaware of the widespread recreational drug culture ?

Tell me where in my posts my opinion is clouded ? My opinion is my opinion, like it or not.

What do you mean by legality being a historic technicality ? So perhaps you think all drugs should be legal ?

You are clearly advocating the use of recreational drugs by justifying your statements with 'many middle class professionals etc etc'? What about the many working class/unemployed people that use soft and hard drugs ? You seem to think its ok because the categories of people you quote (ie, professional people) are sufficient to validate your opinion due to their 'standing' in the community.

Your post is muddled, ill-informed, and with an air of support for drug use.

I am entitled to my opinion largely because I have been at the sharp end of the effects of drug abuse. I can base my opinion on evidence-based fact.

I am not really clear what you are wittering on about but I am not telling people they can't take drugs....it's up to the individual. What I am saying is that we shouldn't get sucked into the mass hysteria of sympathy when a so called television personality overdoses and dies but reserve scorn for the drug fuelled junkie found dead on a park bench.

There is no difference between the two but your post indicates that if you earn X amounts of dosh, have a law degree or sell property, actually it's ok to abuse your body with drugs.

Well carry on, I choose not to and because of that my chances of seeing old bones are statistically a lot greater. I will not waste my sympathy on those that do.

Come on Kim, stop recycling points you have already made. How many times do you want to try and trick me into saying I find it acceptable to take drugs if you are in a certain industry, I quite simply never said it. I merely stated that there are people taking drugs that manage their lives perfectly fine, bring up good families and perform at work. I never said whether that was a good thing or a bad thing.

I never said your opinion was clouded. Read the post.

Why are you still trying to get me to admit my opinion on drugs? it is irrelevant.

Just because you are opinionated, doesn't mean we all are.

Well done on avoiding my comments about the hypocricy of your beliefs by completely ignoring the alcohol part of my post...I must have hit the nail on the head!

I don't care who you sympathise with, and come to think of it, I don't actually remember commenting on your post until you decided to pick a fight with me! You are a pushy woman aren't you?

My argument with Denzil was that you can't label drug users under one description, it is far more complicated. I never supported drug use nor say it was ok if you earn more money.

Is that how you argue? Pretend I say something I didn't and then keep saying the same thing all the way through

You said it yourself, you deal with the sharp end of drug use, there is also a blunt end as if with everything.

Please stop harrassing me miss shouty shouty. ;-)

You are clearly letting emotion and personal opinion cloud an argument that can't possibly be as simple as 'thou shalt not take drugs'.

Where did I say an argument is as simple as 'dont take drugs' My opinion is that it is illegal, and as risky as putting a loaded gun in your mouth. I, unlike you, am more than happy not to sit on the fence on this issue.

You on the other hand say that many people take illegal drugs and bring up families and hold down jobs... Perhaps they do, it still doesn't make it acceptable in today's society and I suspect there are more people that would agree with me on that statement that with you. If it were as acceptable as you are suggesting, we would all be doing it. Perhaps the circles you move in are at ease with taking cocaine. That's fine but don't go shedding false tears when one of yours ends up on a mortuary slab.

I commented on the alcohol point but you failed to spot it. It isn't a relevant analogy and you know it ! Like I said, I am not being lowered into a coffin through drinking too many lager shandies !

You fail to mention anything about junkies who live their lives in a drug induced haze at the expense of tax payers but direct your comments at the seemingly acceptable side of drug use.

Although you say 'My argument with Denzil was that you can't label drug users under one description, it is far more complicated. I never supported drug use nor say it was ok if you earn more money' No it isn't far more complicated, you are utterly naive if you believe that. Drug kills people. That's pretty uncomplicated in my book.

On a parting note, if you feel you are being harassed, don't engage with me ! Simple really isn't it ?

Denzil is a regular troll, and no doubt he loves the "heated debate" he has sparked here.

You say: "My opinion is that it is illegal, and as risky as putting a loaded gun in your mouth." Just because something is illegal doesn't make it wrong, just like something is not necessarily right because it is legal - laws are changing all the time, and the law is an ****, after all.

As for it being as risky as putting a loaded gun in your mouth, that is just ridiculous. Many, many people take drugs with no particular consequences. Many of those people have jobs and pay their own way (not every user lives in a crack-den, living on state benefits off their face all the time), just as others will buy alcohol, drink in moderation and live happy productive lives without dying from liver failure. I am not trying to take sides here, I'm just trying to clarify a point.

The proportion of those use drugs that drop dead from doing it must be very small. Although I don't know any actual statistics, I would be surprised if those who could even be called addicts would be in the majority.

I am not trying to demean your opinion, but the fact that you work with addicts means you see the worst end of the spectrum. Please also remember that "drugs" refers to a range of substances - cocaine and heroin are quite different from marijuana, for example.

Any idiot knows that you don't mix sleeping pills with alcohol, or cocaine with alcohol, and using all three together is highly risky - this IS kind of like putting a loaded gun into your mouth! Anyone who does so must face the consequences and (as has been so tragically demonstrated in this case) leave their loved ones to face the consequences too.

I commented on the alcohol point but you failed to spot it. It isn\\\'t a relevant analogy and you know it ! Like I said, I am not being lowered into a coffin through drinking too many lager shandies !

You fail to mention anything about junkies who live their lives in a drug induced haze at the expense of tax payers but direct your comments at the seemingly acceptable side of drug use.

Although you say \\\'My argument with Denzil was that you can\\\'t label drug users under one description, it is far more complicated. I never supported drug use nor say it was ok if you earn more money\\\' No it isn\\\'t far more complicated, you are utterly naive if you believe that. Drug kills people. That\\\'s pretty uncomplicated in my book.

On a parting note, if you feel you are being harassed, don\\\'t engage with me ! Simple really isn\\\'t it ?
Denzil is a regular troll, and no doubt he loves the \"heated debate\" he has sparked here.

You say: \"My opinion is that it is illegal, and as risky as putting a loaded gun in your mouth.\" Just because something is illegal doesn\'t make it wrong, just like something is not necessarily right because it is legal - laws are changing all the time, and the law is an ****, after all.

I am not trying to take sides here, I\'m just trying to clarify a point.

The proportion of those use drugs that drop dead from doing it must be very small. Although I don\'t know any actual statistics, I would be surprised if those who could even be called addicts would be in the majority.

I am not trying to demean your opinion, but the fact that you work with addicts means you see the worst end of the spectrum. Please also remember that \"drugs\" refers to a range of substances - cocaine and heroin are quite different from marijuana, for example.

Any idiot knows that you don\'t mix sleeping pills with alcohol, or cocaine with alcohol, and using all three together is highly risky - this IS kind of like putting a loaded gun into your mouth! Anyone who does so must face the consequences and (as has been so tragically demonstrated in this case) leave their loved ones to face the consequences too.
I don't work with addicts, you have assumed that from the information I have given you.

I work for a mental health charity that, among its service users, are many people who have abused drugs and are finding out the hard way that the so called soft drugs that are supposedly safe, aren't....the descent into mental ill health comes as a bit of a shock. We are seeing a massive rise in young adolscent males in particular who have a predisposition to mental illness which is being triggered by cannabis abuse. This so called safe option, is anything but. Drug induced psychosis is not something that can be cured with an elastoplast. And this isn't just one or two people as you seem to imply, its hundreds, and growing and the age of those affected is getting younger. 16yr olds suffering cannabis induced schizpophrenia is sadly not uncommon.
Your post implies that there are 'safe' categories of drug. There aren't and I suggest you do some research to educate yourself.

'dropping dead from drugs' is a rather over the top description and I think you are well aware of that .....its the indirect consequences that can cause the most trauma. Like Mark Speight taking his own life as an indirect result of him being Natasha's drug pusher. The guilt probably overwhelmed him, so not one death from drugs, but two.

To quote your last paragraph.....
'Any idiot knows that you don't mix sleeping pills with alcohol, or cocaine with alcohol, and using all three together is highly risky - this IS kind of like putting a loaded gun into your mouth! Anyone who does so must face the consequences and (as has been so tragically demonstrated in this case) leave their loved ones to face the consequences too'

I would go one step further and say, anyone who dabbles with drugs, let alone mixing it with other substances, is putting a loaded gun in their mouth.

With the increasing evidence about the negative effect of drugs on mental health, anyone who thinks it won't happen to them, or they won't get addicted, is fooling themselves. People do start on cannabis and find themselves spiralling towards dependency on hard drugs: Jobs are lost, futures are ruined, people do die, and families are ripped apart by something that some people deem to be acceptable.

I am content to be counted in the group of people who do not need to use substances to obtain a high. My life is full enough without wishing to chance an early death by seeking an artificial high.

Oh and one final comment, and I have to quote you again ' Just because something is illegal doesn't make it wrong'
What a completely idiotic thing to say....Murder is illegal, (funnily enough) but in your book, perhaps not wrong ?
Incest is illegal but do you practice that ?
There are laws for good reason and consequences when you choose to break them.

You say you are not in support of drug use...I would beg to differ.

lol, as I said earlier it was you that engaged with me, not the other way around.

Thanks for the burger comment, shows how naive (and immature) you are really doesn't it? You have deduced that I support taking illegal drugs despite me making it quite clear that I have never said that. From your incorrect assumption you then make a leap of faith to guess that I have burgers to fry...oh we are on our high horse today aren't we?

'Perhaps the circles you move in are at ease with taking cocaine. That's fine but don't go shedding false tears when one of yours ends up on a mortuary slab.' Another point based on an incorrect assumption. Also I never claimed to shed any tears, false or genuine.

The alcohol point is far from irrelevant and YOU know it. IN fact it is the crux of why I am arguing with you. Your comments suggest that it's ok to die from one but not the other just because one is illegal. You personally may not die from drinking too many lager shandies but isn't that the same as someone saying 'I'm not going to die after having a couple of spliffs am I?' Again, you sugar coat alcohol because it is on the wrong side of the law despite looking at all the statistics which would suggest alcohol should be on the same side. Even someone as stubborn as you must be able to see that there would be a massive benefit to removing alcohol from society...there are the health issues, the death rates, the costs to emergency services, the fighting, the drunk driving etc. These are all problems that you get with illegal drugs but in far lesser numbers. And yes, I am aware that more people drink than do drugs so figures will be higher.

It IS MORE COMPLICATED than you believe. Drugs Kill people, correct. Alcohol kills people, correct. Nicotine kills people, correct. Let me ask what category causes more strain on our society?

I can't believe that you honestly feel everything is so black and white, it's crazy. You are coming across as one of those idiots that thinks something is fine just because the law says so.

I don't do drugs, I am just saying that drugs are inherent in our society, always have been and always will be. I expect a lot of people you come across throughout your life will use drugs and you won't even know it.

The fact that I don't do drugs may come as a shock to you as you have obviously made that link and have made snide comments linked to that assumption. This shows your total lack of understanding as to what goes on...not all people that do drugs are down and outs who work frying burgers.

Surely I can't be saying what I'm saying if I don't do drugs?? Shock horror.

I go back to my original statement made to Denzil (not you, before you butted in) that people need to take off their blinkers

I think you are blinkered matey, you haven't got a grip on what is being debated at all !

You moaned at being harassed, yet you reply to my posts then complain when I point out your inconsistencies. If you can't take it honey, don't dish it out !

The debate isn't about alcohol, or have you missed that ? It's about two people who were cokeheads and died because of it.

I am more than aware of the prevalence of drug abuse in society....you say that I am not. I work for an agency that picks up the pieces as a direct result in some cases of regular drug abuse. Would you care to retract your statement? Your opinion seems to be based more upon what you read in OK magazine.

The basis of your argument seems to be, Drugs are common ( No sh**t sherlock ) and people with lots of money take them ( No really ?)
You don't do drugs (glad to hear it) and some people (assume you mean on here) are blinkered as to the prevalence of recreational drug use. I think you underestimate the intelligence of just about the entire population of the England. There can't be a person in the land who doesn't know someone who has been affected by drug use, either directly or indirectly.

Denzil is a regular troll, and no doubt he loves the \\\"heated debate\\\" he has sparked here.

You say: \\\"My opinion is that it is illegal, and as risky as putting a loaded gun in your mouth.\\\" Just because something is illegal doesn\\\'t make it wrong, just like something is not necessarily right because it is legal - laws are changing all the time, and the law is an ****, after all.

I am not trying to take sides here, I\\\'m just trying to clarify a point.

The proportion of those use drugs that drop dead from doing it must be very small. Although I don\\\'t know any actual statistics, I would be surprised if those who could even be called addicts would be in the majority.

I am not trying to demean your opinion, but the fact that you work with addicts means you see the worst end of the spectrum. Please also remember that \\\"drugs\\\" refers to a range of substances - cocaine and heroin are quite different from marijuana, for example.

Any idiot knows that you don\\\'t mix sleeping pills with alcohol, or cocaine with alcohol, and using all three together is highly risky - this IS kind of like putting a loaded gun into your mouth! Anyone who does so must face the consequences and (as has been so tragically demonstrated in this case) leave their loved ones to face the consequences too.
I don\'t work with addicts, you have assumed that from the information I have given you.

I work for a mental health charity that, among its service users, are many people who have abused drugs and are finding out the hard way that the so called soft drugs that are supposedly safe, aren\'t....the descent into mental ill health comes as a bit of a shock. We are seeing a massive rise in young adolscent males in particular who have a predisposition to mental illness which is being triggered by cannabis abuse. This so called safe option, is anything but. Drug induced psychosis is not something that can be cured with an elastoplast. And this isn\'t just one or two people as you seem to imply, its hundreds, and growing and the age of those affected is getting younger. 16yr olds suffering cannabis induced schizpophrenia is sadly not uncommon.
Your post implies that there are \'safe\' categories of drug. There aren\'t and I suggest you do some research to educate yourself.

\'dropping dead from drugs\' is a rather over the top description and I think you are well aware of that .....its the indirect consequences that can cause the most trauma. Like Mark Speight taking his own life as an indirect result of him being Natasha\'s drug pusher. The guilt probably overwhelmed him, so not one death from drugs, but two.

To quote your last paragraph.....
\'Any idiot knows that you don\'t mix sleeping pills with alcohol, or cocaine with alcohol, and using all three together is highly risky - this IS kind of like putting a loaded gun into your mouth! Anyone who does so must face the consequences and (as has been so tragically demonstrated in this case) leave their loved ones to face the consequences too\'

I would go one step further and say, anyone who dabbles with drugs, let alone mixing it with other substances, is putting a loaded gun in their mouth.

With the increasing evidence about the negative effect of drugs on mental health, anyone who thinks it won\'t happen to them, or they won\'t get addicted, is fooling themselves.

Oh and one final comment, and I have to quote you again \' Just because something is illegal doesn\'t make it wrong\'

How dare you think you have ANY right to say something like that to me. Either you are a troll like Denzil, or even worse you think you are some sort of an authority. I inferred something wrongly from what you said, for which I apologise.

Because I dared to imply that not everyone who uses a drug is an addict and a parasite on society, you think that makes me incestuous?

I know your intentions are good, and you are passionate about this subject because of the harm that you see it doing to good people, but this is really going too far. Read back to yourself what you wrote about me, based entirely on one post in which I disagreed with your point of view, and please try to realise how hurtful your comments were.

My intentions were to engage a fellow human being into meaningful debate, but clearly you are not capable. Maybe one day you will calm down, and on that day I hope you will contact me again.

At no point did I say you condone Murder....it was a rhetorical question but you fail or choose not to see the difference. You are being difficult for the sake of it....

You have moved the goalposts to suit your agenda, thrown insults, whinged at the Echo, bitched, whined and generally complained about being harrassed. What a complete load of codswallop. You state 'there are also lawyers, police officers, stockbrokers, financial advisers, bankers and various middle class professionals who use cocaine. They are some of the people that make the world go around.' ....Interested to see your evidence to back up your claims.

'All the people ranting about drug users on this site need to take their blinkers off I'm afraid' Says who ? You ? Why ? Oh because you know people who take drugs....lawyers, bankers etc

'Because I dared to imply that not everyone who uses a drug is an addict and a parasite on society, you think that makes me incestuous?' ...... Talk about moving the goalposts.....I did not imply that makes you incestuous, you choose to twist it to make you look like a victim. See above reference to your 'Just because its illegal doesn't make it wrong comment.

And possibly the most moronic offering ' Before writing off everybody who uses coke you should look around and see who uses it....'
Where can we buy your DIY COKE DETECTING KIT THEN ? As I am struggling to tell if our tea lady is a cokehead or not...

You claim not be pro-drugs but look back at your posts....you give the strong impression that you condone it and I am not the only one who has commented on it. You also imply that some people who take illegal drugs are doing nothing wrong because they have nice jobs and nice lives. How utterly naive and misguided are you ? I hope to god you don't have kids.
