A MOTORIST was killed early today when his car careered off the road and smashed into a tree.
A silver-coloured Mercedes was travelling north on the A338 shortly after midnight when the accident happened at Blashford, near Ringwood.
The 43-year-old victim, who lived in the Fordingbridge area, is thought to have been killed instantly.
Police closed the road for seven hours while they investigated the cause of the tragedy and arranged for the wreckage of the car to be removed.
A police spokesman said the victim was the only occupant of the Mercedes. She added that no other vehicle was involved.
