TWO New Forest towns have won their long running battle to install closed circuit TV systems.

Cameras will be set up in Hythe and New Milton after council chiefs gave the nod to expand coverage.

It comes six years after a multimillion- pound CCTV scheme was set up in Lymington, Totton, Ringwood and Lyndhurst.

A total of 39 cameras were introduced in those towns, while Hythe and New Milton were left out due to a cash shortage.

Now they are set to receive up to five cameras each after New Forest District Council's Cabinet approved the scheme.

A council report said £300,000 would provide eight to ten cameras over the two locations.

However, the exact cost of the project will be revealed only after a tender is completed later this month and the exact location of the cameras is determined.

It's well overdue for Hythe to get cameras. It is a no go zone after dark in that tiny place. After the cameras I hope they get rid of the ferry and stop the bus route after 7pm so that the chav culture of Hythe can't get into the city.

Do we know where they are to be located?

Will it be another case of old technology going in and wasting tax payers money with pixelated images that cannot lead to identification, or are they going to future proof the system,Mega pixel cctv is here, it is being installed with massive success in Citys throughout the UK. lets not put up with the usual rubbish images we see in the papers.
