THEY turned up in their droves to see TV presenter Roger Johnson get covered in slime - but instead got a two-for-one deal.

Despite hundreds of Daily Echo readers voting for Roger to be humiliated in the gunge tank, former Saint Francis Benali also ended up drenched in goo at Rose Road's charity fun day.

Not satisfied with seeing just Roger covered in slime, children's TV favourite Dave Benson-Phillips offered the crowd a "two-for-one offer" to throw Francis in as well.

Former Saints captain Jason Dodd and BBC cricket reporter Kevan James escaped the gunking.

It is hoped the celebrity gungeing will have raised more than £300,000 for the charity.

Despite being covered from head to toe in slime, Roger Johnson said: "It was absolutely great fun, and a once in a lifetime experience I hope. It was great getting gunged up for such as good cause.

"It was very gracious of Franny to step in and get gunked as well. Thanks to all the Echo readers who voted for me - I know you mean't well by it!"

A soaked, multi-coloured Francis Benali added: "Getting gunged was a bit of a surprise but it was warm and strangely enjoyable!"

I am really disappointed that the people of Southampton feel the need to be so negative about everything. These guys gave up their own time to help a charity and the Echo have supported the event every step of the way, I think thats newsworthy!

Queen Sally Taylor should have been gunged and the dreadful Stuart Norval and Dani Sinha and what about the unfunny radio presenters Julian Clegg Jon Cuthill Mike Powell and Mike Osman.
Even more money would have been raised
