POLICE are appealing for information after a runaway car almost hit a woman outside her Southampton home.

The woman jumped out of the way as the empty silver Vauxhall Corsa crashed through a wall and into her porch. The mum had just been waving her daughter off to school in Butts Road, Sholing.

It is believed that the car had been left parked in Butts Road. The crash, at 8am on June 26, left extensive damage to the wall, the porch and the car.

PC Sue Brown said: "This incident could have easily ended up in a serious injury or worse. I'm now appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or who saw the car prior to the event, to contact me."

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Brown on 0845 045 4545, or Crimestop-pers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

It happened at 8am on 26 June, and is reported today, 4 July, under the heading 'Latest News'! There must be one hell of a back-log of 'latest news' at the Echo offices!
