We attended the Meat Loaf concert at Broadlands and it was absolutely awful. The weather and wind cannot be blamed entirely for the appauling performance. The wind probably did not help but the sound for the warm up act (Meat Loaf's daughter) and for the female back up singers solos was absolutely fine - it was the man himselfs performance that was very disappointing.

I think this is hilarious. Meatloaf is one of the most hideous musicians to ever grace the planet and why anybody would actually want to pay to see this horrible man deserves what they get. I'm glad it was windy. I knew he'd be rubbish...cos he is

Meatloaf cant 'control' the weather! NEITHER CAN HE 'BLAME' THE WEATHER. If only the wind had carried his voice away! The other singer came across as strong and clear, even with the wind. HE WAS DIRE. My 18 yr old son summed it up ' he sounds like Chewbacca from Star Wars! his greatest hits were almost unrecognisable as he slurred / mumbled / stumbled across stage. A TOTAL EMBARRASSMENT. I am trying to get a refund as I paid for 7 tickets. We left early, along with 1000s, what a waste of nearly £280.00

I recently saw a Meatloaf tribute (Matt Shaw) at Bitterne Park Club, £3 to get in even for non members, he was absolutely fantastic, an incredible voice and would kick Meatloaf's sorry a***e all day long.... people are still talking about his performace now 6 weeks later....a great night had by all, dry, seated and cheap drink ! What more could you ask for?

I wouldn't even bother watching these overpaid has-beens who don't know when to hang up their mics.... those who did have been conned, quite frankly.

Everyone knows too much 'Meatloaf' will give you wind. Add in an excess amount of water and you're sure to feel upset.
Best to stay at home with some 'Hot Chocolate', much easier to enjoy.

Are his gigs a day long as each of his songs in 10 minutes long.

I wrote and complained and had a letter back from the promoter saying that Errol Brown hadn't appeared with HC for about 12 years...so why the hell book that band and advertise it as such then ?

Its all about the money and conning people into parting with it.

I was at the concert as well on Sunday and yes the sound at the back was poor due to the wind but anywhere nearer than 200 feet from the front the sound was great

What a load of rubbish - we were 20ft from the stage the sound from the backing singers was fine - MEATLOAF CANT SING!! It was appalling he sounded like a strangled cat - hundreds of people left early. We stayed on hoping it would improve but it didnt. We left during Bat out of Hell as did many many many others. I want my money back.

I to thought the sound system at Meatloaf Broadlands was really bad, and also missing from a "proffesional" show were the side screens for those at the back.
My wife being wheelchair bound we had no choice but to use the disabled platform for her to see anything, but this was so far back meatloaf was like a toy, and what we did hear was dire !

i moved 4 times from the back to the middle to the side near the front and he sounded awful where ever i stood so how you can blame the weather conditions is beyond me

My friend and i had tickets to see him last year, when he cancelled on the morning of the concert we were gutted, so when we found out he was coming to Broadlands we thought hurrah he will get to see him after all! He did sound awful everyone who was stood around us just stared at each other in disbelief before packing up and going home early, by the time the encore came so many had gone home that we had moved right up near the stage! In a way i wish i had never gone as i feel as if it has spoiled the expectation of what it would be like to see him perform live

I think it's unfair what people have been saying. My partner and I are big Meatloaf fans and we queued up from 12:30 to get to the front of the stage - IT WAS WORTH IT. Although he took a couple of songs to warm up, he was excellent.
I'd like to say to those who are complaining about the sound that if they had arrived earlier and got closer to the front of the stage, they would have a completely different opinion. You should blame Meatloaf for the sound problems, it was the dreadful weather - at least he came out in the rain and wind to give us a great show!!!!

Who got ripped off? So the performance wasn't all you expected it to be. Big deal. It happens. It's not like he thought "I know, I'll charge for tickets, but I'll be terrible. That'll teach them". Rip off indeed! Doubtless you expected him to sound exactly like he did on, let me guess, Hits Out Of Hell. Get a clue, live music is a hit-and-miss affair, everyone has bad days. Live with it. I attended the Meat Loaf concert at Broadlands on sunday and have to say that I enjiyed the gig. His vocals are more than a little suspect these days, but the two female singers and great musicians in the band more than made up for it. I had no problems with the sound as I was within 30 yrds of the stage, and the weather didnt bother me. His daughter's can 'wail' as well and I found her band Pearl, entertaining. I first saw Meat Loaf back in 1980 on his first trip to the UK and 28 years on, I wasnt disapointed. After all, at 61 he must be getting tired by now!

I must say when a few of my friends said they wanted to go I told them not to waste their money. I was in New Hampshire, USA and went to see Meatloaf perform at The University of NH and he was absolutely terrible. We left after 4 songs, again the back up singing was brilliant but he was dreadful and there was NO BAD WEATHER as it was indoors. I think he has just passed his prime.

we arrived at broadlands with plenty of time to spare so went to get a beer,oh sold out of beer and cider 3 hours before meatloaf due to come on,all that was left was bottles of wine at £15 !!! a bottle !!! the rip off had started.with in 10 mins of meat on load of people around us were moaning inc us,we saw at least 200 people leave,packing up chairs,tables and picnics,dont blame the wind and rain as we were all enjoying picnicing in it,so,so sad.........

What a lot of negative remarks about a legend just remember the age of meat loaf. Some people are not happy unless they are complaining,I attended with my 14 year old grand-daughter and my son this being 3 generations who thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was well worth the £37:50. Lets hope Meat Loaf returns to Southampton in the near future we will certainly be going again to see this great rock star.

you all shouldnt of wasted your money going to broadlands on sunday night. you should have gone on the saturday to see Boyzone there. They were greatly received nobody left during the show!! No problems with sound and much better weather!! And of course one important thing Much better to look at!!!

I went to the concert and cannot understand how Meatloaf was able to be heard when he introduced his step-daughter and seemed very with it. Yet when he came on later for his gig you were unable to hear him properly, his speach was slurred and he was not sining with the music. My daughter summed it up by saying he was flat and out of key. If a 14yr old can see what was wrong, why can't his management team.You can't airbrush a live performance so this was how he must really sound. Good job we went home early as my ears could not take that noise all evening. It was a real disapointment!!!!!!!

Seriously, I'm so sick of hearing media-types claiming they're "more qualified" to know about music, and getting all snobbish, just because they're remotely involved in music for a living. What did you all expect, did you expect it to sound like a cd well hello its live it does sound different. The group of ladies I was with really enjoyed the show and no we were not wearing deaf aids meatloaf was very entertaining, his band, backsingers were brilliant. Everyone around us was dancing and singing and had a great time well worth the £37.50. Lets hope he visits again. All the best to Pearl look forward to hearing more of them in the future.

Well me and my husband went to the Meatloaf concert on Sunday. To be honest i am not a huge fan infact it was more of a pressie for my hubby as he has like Meatloafs music over the years. Being it was in my home town i thought why not get some tickets. I personally went with an open mind but my main concern all day was what the weather was going to be like especially when waking up Sunday morning to pouring down rain. Well one thing i do disagree with in some of the above comments is i thought the weather held off really well and couldn't really ask for more.I think out of the three days of concerts Sunday had to be the best day for the weather (come the evening). Yes it was a little cold come 9pm ish but whether we didn't find it to bad may of been that we were to the side of the stage where there were trees at the back of us. As for he's performance well yes have to say it wasn't as good as i thought it would be and definetly Patti Russo was the best singer of the night. My main disappointment was that he only did about 3 of he's older songs that a majority of people only recognised (me included) and it was these songs that seem to get the crowd warmed up a little. I have been to quite a few concerts in my time and all have been inside a building so whether it's down to that and the atmosphere is better as well as the sounding. As for age of the man well i went last year to see Lionel Richie who is probably around the same age maybe even older and well he could put a lot of young artists to shame for the amount of energy he gave to he's concert. Fantastic definetly would recommend seeing him well worth every penny (admittly i had seats in the second row from the front). Worst person i have ever seen was Whitney Houston what a rip off that was now that would be something to complain about. Treated her audience like crap hour or more coming on late and didn't even actually sing her songs on spoke them crap crap crap...............

Yep!! Totally agree with Dee about 'lets have more legends at Broadlands'. Us in the South have waited years to start to have some descent concerts in our neck of the woods so we don't have to travel miles. Whilst everyones complaining about wanting a refund, just think of how much it would of cost you if you had to travel for miles and pay accomendation plus your ticket etc. You would have to be looking at a good £200.00 per person. So it could of been worst for those that weren't happy. Look forward to any future descent acts.

Oh yeah forgot to add, someone moaned about the alcohol running out too early, does anyone wonder whether this is done on purpose so people dont get drunk and act like the idiots i was stood next to for a bit!! Luckily security were called and they calmed down. You dont go to a concert to drink alcohol, go the pub if you want that ansd listen to the jukebox!!!!

ive been reading the comments about meatloaf at broadlands and feel that they are very wrong!!
the weather was fine only overcast all evening! the sound was brilliant!! ive been to many gigs both outside and indoors and could not fault the performance in anyway!! im not a meatloaf fan and was bought the tickets as a present, iwent not really knowing much about the music at all! but as a fan of rock in general i can tell you he rocked and it was the best gig ive been to in years! and im not supised those at the daily echo coulnt here as the daily echo stand was way back away from the stage!!

and another thing! during the cocert i needed th toilet which 4 those who didnt go was as far as you could get from the stage!! i coulld still here fine!!and was able with ease to then walk back 2 where my mates were at the front of the stage! so those who felt they couldnt here should have just moved closer!!! as it was a very sivalised croud!!

and id also like to make it clear that bands playing live never sound like they do on the cds! as the music is not messed around with!! and yes meatloaf probably didnt sound like he did 10 years ago in his hay day!! but he is 61!!

I saw Meatloaf at Broadlands at the weekend, Yes I was down the front and I had an amazing time, not even the weather could put dampners on for me.
What did ruin the evening was the drinkers who by the end were very drunk & the smokers who were like chimneys.
You can't blame Meat Loaf for the weather, I know he is a rock god, but not the heavenly father!!!!!

I agree. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Pointless to expect studio sound quality at a live gig, particularly an outdoor one where the sound quality is so affected by the conditions.

This is just turning into a "bash Meat Loaf fest" which he doesn't deserve. He put on an excellent show and gave it everything as he always does. I will be seeing the remainder of his UK shows and know I will enjoy them.

I think the problem is, most of the whingers are of the boy-band persuasion, and sadly, since their "gigs" are essentially a mime act, or at best, glorified karaoke, they do tend to sound the same "live" as they do on CD. Because you are, in effect, listening to their CD, with perhaps a bit of live vocal over the top, but probably not

I was at the Meat Loaf concert, and i could hear perfectly well. It's just a case of getting there early, to get near the front. For the first few songs, Mr Loaf sounded quite, but after a few ajustments, of which were not his fault but our terrible weather, he sounded fine. You can't help the weather. I would rather complain about the amount of toatlly drunk people everywhere, shouting and getting in the way. That ruined it for me. Mr Loaf is over 60, cut him some slack, you perform a show of that size, at his age, in that weather and cold, and see how well you sound? by all means complain, but its just one of those thigs so: GET OVER IT!

can anyone who did love the concert please make it known on here or if you know anyone who did please write it down!! i feel the echo has chosen a minority that didnt like it!!and i think all this negativity is unfair!as was an amazing show!!!

I didn't go to the show that you are talking about- but I did go and see Meat Loaf on the same tour last week in Liverpool. This show was an indoor show and therefore the wind was no factor - however Meat's vocals were shocking- it was like he was singing a different song to his great backing band. Having seen him many times before I was very disappointed with the quality of his voice. He seemed to try his best but sadly I think the time has come to hang up the bat!

I also think that the Echo just picked people who didn't like the show.Point one: Hes not young anymore so aint going to sound great, surely your feeble brians worked this out before you booked the tickets! Point two: Weather was not his fault so the sound going wrong wasn't anyone's fault soley, just the poor weather, which again you must have seen and sat through when you were there? Point three: I saw him at Wembly last year for the 3 bats tour, he was great, just it was OUTDOORS this time, and the elements take there toll! so shhh

Meatloaf was awful - I wouldn't call myself a fan but I used to consider Meat a ledgend now I find him sad and past it. He should have quited ahead and remained a ledgend.

I was at both the Boyzone and Meatloaf Concerts. My mum and I are big meatloaf fans and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. No. He wasn't singing well at all, Yes. He has been very ill which was evident enough from the cancellations that occured in his November tour for which I was supposed to see him in Wembley. But above all He's a performer and he performed well. And I wish him all health and happiness.

For me the first time to go to a Meat Loaf concert and I enjoyed every single second of it. Fortunately it stopped raining just as we arrived and there was no drop since. Got to pretty close (30 meters or so) to the stage and no problems at all with the sound. I grew up with the first Bat album and although I wouldn't consider myself a superfan, I couldn't let the opportunity pass, given how close to home he was playing.

Did I expect to get perfect CD quality? No, of course not, it's a live concert and it's outdoors.

Did I expect him to sound exactly the way he did 30 years ago? No, of course not, he's over 60 now.

Was I entertained? Most definitely yes! Pearl kicked off in a great way, the Neverland Express was solid, CC and (especially) Patti were fantastic. And on top of all that I finally got to see Meat Loaf in concert, sing along with all the classics, taste the atmosphere.

In short, we thoroughly enjoyed the show, had a great evening and for us it was worth every one of the 2x3750 pennies.

It was a great show. We were at the front. The sound was fine. It certainly wasn't a "Hot Summer Night" and Meat wasn't quite as good as he was at Wembley last year, but it was one hell of a show. His performance of Bat Out of Hell was one of the best I have ever see him perform - and this was near the end of the 2 hour show.

I suggest that those that are complaining should take their blankets, wrap them over their knees and turn up to the next WestZone concert - they obviously don't like Rock and Roll.

I was at both the Boyzone and Meatloaf Concerts. Boyzone's PA was excellent, and also endured winds as strong as 35mph. In fact the weather was worse. On Meatloaf's website he blames the weather and the PA. Perhaps he should look closer to home. He was carried by his backing singers and daughter on many songs, as HE was out of key !!! No excuses. He may be ill, but is ripping off his fans in his last days. He was awful as was his PA man. Sort it out and stop ripping off the fans.

I am Angry.
I am Angry that the concert was rubbish. But what makes me even more angry is both Meatloaf and some fans on here are making excuses as to why it was rubbish.
If it was down to the weather then why could every other artist be heard clearly?
If it was down to his mic alone then why could we hear that he was throughout singing off key and out of sync?
The plain simple truth is he stank. He stank like a steaming turd! That is the unquestionable truth.
Clearly some people leaving comments on here are unable to make impartial judgements.
At a concert I do not think it unreasonable to expect that the singer can actually sing. What we got was pub karaoke.
This was clearly a revenue generating exercise as the comments from Plymouth and Bath shows were equally poor. Seems he has been terrible in the States also for quite a while which is presumably while he has now turned to ripping off the UK.
Very poor. Those defending him should be ashamed of themselves.
