THE purring sound of powerful supercars formed the centrepiece for a roaring Bank Holiday event in the New Forest.
Families were given the chance to hear the multi-cylinder engines of a number of the National Motor Museum's most prestigious vehicles.
Among the cars put through their paces in the Beaulieu arena were the 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost and the 1930 Blower Bentley Le Mans replica.
Visitors also heard the growl of the 7.4 litre Cosworth DFV powered Lotus 49 F1, driven to championship glory by Graham Hill.
A number of modern cars made up the display, which was part of a summer of events at the museum.
