Tattoo man - Now my son will be close to me forever

A HAMPSHIRE man aiming to become the most tattooed person in the world has completed the most poignant stage of his campaign.

Freddie Krueger got a portrait of his son Riley, who died three years ago at just five days old, inked onto the left side of his chest as a lasting tribute.

It is the latest in a long list of tattoos covering the 30-year-old's body.

He aims to tattoo every inch of his skin, as well as his tongue and his gums.

So far he has a solid blue face, left arm and left thigh, tribal patterns on his right arm and leg, fire licking up his stomach and two skulls kissing over his heart.

Freddie said: "I like all my tattoos but this latest one is my favourite. I really love it, it's fantastic. It means Riley can be close to me all the time."

Freddie, of Alma Road, Southampton, has so far spent more than £2,000 on tattoos over the past 16 years and has racked up more than 190 hours under the needle.

Film fan Freddie, who changed his name from David Wood in homage to the Nightmare on Elm Street films, added: "When I get a tattoo done I get a real sense that I've conquered something - a real sense of achievement.''

When was the last-time YOU did something worth while for a charity mate?

At least Freddie's doing something good for a charity that saves lives......what's your contribution?

Nothing mate, nothing.

i think the point of the article is to show his dedication and love his dead son and it is a lasting tribute to his memory. i have several tattoos and i think it is a lovely gesture to have his son tattooed on him!!!

Agreed, I personally hate tattoos but I can totally understand him doing this one.

The blue face sucks though

If he wants to remember his son via a tattoo, then that's his choice and good luck to him.

But why on earth is he approaching the Echo about it and why are the Echo printing it?

For me, this smacks of the media's obsession with "look at the freak!" stories.

Really. It would make a statue weep.

I cleaned out my oven with a tooth pick; in just under three minutes.
I also did my weekly shopping – at the same time.
I swam across the Thames just to get an ice cream. I then swam back again, via Newcastle.
I've read bedtime stories before breakfast on many occasions and yes, I have won the National lottery.
I've painted the London Eye, twice, in one night.
Oh, and I've discovered the secret of eternal life.
But alas, I have never had a tattoo, so yes, I must be a sad mongrel.

This is also more about media coverage for the story covered yesterday and the money raised goes to the Neo-natal ward at The Princess Anne Hospital.
So rather than slag the guy off for trying to do something to help others maybe you should donate to the charity!!

the way I see it, far too many people get all het up about how other people use these boards. so george is argumentative? so what? thats what public comment is all about. ok he drones on a bit sometimes but usually about the story. rock n roll likes to act all angry and vengeful and righteous, and go for the shock effect. so what? its usually about the story. so king mush likes a bit of argy-bargy? so what? why not just argue back if you disagree with them? getting upset at someone for being a know-it-all won't stop them being a know-it-all. it just looks like you dont know how to have an argument. as for endless gay jokes and insults, well, thats not even worth discussing let alone actually doing. nothing to do with the story at all

people need to spend more time doing what they think is right and a bit less time trying to force others to behave how they think they should.

The man in the article is a self-publicizing tattoo freak, so ridicule is warranted. And people who harp on publicly about their own charitable work lack humility. By the way, are you 12 years old? You write like one.

Whats the fuss all about?

I hate the idea of tattoos but respect anyybody's wishes to do what they want with their own bodies.

It doesnt 'hurt' anybody else - likewise with body piercings etc. Ugly self-abuse and mutilation in my book but it doesnt really bother me.

This guy is an extreme case and one cant help but sympathise with his terrible loss so perhaps people can just let it swim over them?

Not sure about the Freddy Kreuger handle though? Makes me think of that mad prisoner Charles Bronson.

Years ago - we saw the 'Tattooed Man' alongside the Bearded Lady and others in the circus/fair freakshows.

Maybe the dude should just carry on and bang in the charity stuff and at least he does work for a living?

I presume that people on his round quite like the chap? Dont judge a book by the cover etc.

Well said. Balanced, thoughtful and compassionate. Each to his own. That has to be right. But, ( and a reasoned, reasonable "but" ) there has to be a question mark over excessive or compulsive or extreme behaviour?

I just think its hilarious he thinks he's going to be the most tattooed man in the world. I've done a little research and the record holder (lucky diamond rich) for the most tattoo's has had well over 1000 hours of tattooing and many layers of ink. This man has only been tattooed for 190. Thats a million miles away from any kind of record. I cant understand why he wants the portrait of his son but what on earth has that got to do with the Daily Echo?!?!

I'm sure you meant can rather than cant Hayley.
My thoughts are that the man hasn't got over the death of his son. The fact he works etc and kept it together in many ways would suggest he's been overlooked for the councilling he may well need to come to terms with his loss. It's great that he's doing this for a noble cause and I applaud the money he's raised. I just hope he doesn't live to regret it at a later date.
What have I done for charity?
A lot.

Would he still have got the tattoo if he wasnt going to be in the papers? In the back of Mondays echo there was a story about a lady that raised £114,000 for charity yet she wasnt on the front page and had no where near as much coverage as freddie. The way he looks shouldnt mean he gets more coverage, thats disgusting.

It is wrong Hayley, and maybe the Echo is making a freakshow out of the poor bloke who probably needs help to deal with the tragic loss of his son. I can't imagine what it's like to lose a child but from other life experiences of a lesser nature I can understand it's very hard. I wonder what was put in place to help him deal with these issues.
Sadly news today needs that extra angle to make the first few pages.
the abuse affordedto this man on this site is inexcusable, nutcase etc. If he's slightly of the rails mentally wise at the moment people, parents especially, should think, therer but for the grace of god go I.

What a bunch of crap!! did anyone notice that his face was badly done? "pauly is a great tattooist" you must be joking!! his face is supposed to be black! as far as being the most tattooed person in england... he's got a long way to go. i personally have more tattoo's than him. he is so desperate for attention! why do you think he's had his face done first?? he's had all the areas where everyone will see them. it screams of an inferiority complex. "please look at me" i think the years of drug abuse and questionable lifestyle has left him a very sad confused person. as far as charity goes... why don't you give a percentage of your 25k a year to the charity that you claim to want to help so much?? you could do sponsored runs, walks, bungee jump but obviously that wouldn't draw a lot of attention your way.

Hi Steve,Paul is a great tattooist,he didn't do any of freds face,i know this as a fact because i know both Paul & Fred very well,my husband & i have had all our work done by paul & i can assure u that he is the best ive come across...Freds face is patchy, its cover work 2 cover tribal etc, still not completed! hence why it looks patchy, but i do see where your coming from & we all have our own opinions,i dont think this is the only thing Fred has done 2 try & raise money 4 this cause but the papers will only print what they know of or want 2!!

actually his tribal dragons were on his eyebrows and where his side burns would be. his face is patchy all over. the tribal was black so should be the new ink. from my 12 years professional tattooing experience i would say that the work is substandard. all of his "black" is actually patchy and blue. but not through choice.

steve, says...

also if he's going to be "the most tattooed person" he will have to cover up his new portrait of his son. as the people who currently hold this title have had complete body suits covered with black then purple and white over the top. all in all at least 3 body suits. it just shows that he obviously doesn't think anything through properly.

he had the dragons on his eyebrows and side burns covered with tribal then had half his face done tribal before having all tribal covered with black.

Fred has worked at royal mail sorting office for a number of years , and yes i agree his tattoos are not to my liking but i must add that at any charity fund raising event, he is always one of the first people to put his hand in his pocket, so just look to the cause and not the way he is doing it. and as for bus driver, at least fred turns up for work on tiem unlike the bloody buses nowadays.

It strikes me that a great deal of people have completely missed the point of this whole venture.
Yes, ok....there is a level of self publicity but so what, there's nothing wrong with that, celebrities do it all the time under the guise of charitable causes; just look at Children In Need. This is a televised event, there isn't really a greater form of publicity available on this planet than television & you can’t tell me there isn’t some form of ego attached to that, yet very few people slag off those taking part because it's done to help children. Fred may not be a major celebrity but, in essence, the principle is the same.

It’s the bigger picture that’s important.

Fred is trying to make people aware of a huge need for public funding for an important cause. The money raised will be going to the Neo-natal ward at the Princess Anne Hospital, providing desperately needed resources to care for sick & dying babies. I'm not sure how anyone can slate a person for doing such a wonderful thing. I would think that any parent would want the best care for their ill child & would support any chance available to benefit their own or, anyone else's children. There is nothing worse than a parent out-living their child.

We are proud to know Fred & fully support him.
