A FINAL appeal to raise £80,000 for a new Abbots Langley community centre has been launched.
Planning permission for the centre was granted by Three Rivers District Council in November.
The organisers of A New Abbots Langley Community Centre Appeal (ANALCCA) are now hoping to raise the remaining funds through a National Lottery grant and a village wide appeal.
A leaflet inviting villagers to contribute has been distributed throughout Abbots Langley.
Leaflets can be lodged with Abbey Pharmacy or Moss Chemists in High Street.
ANALCCA spokesman Roy Bratt said that the appeal had received a "good response so far".
He said: "I'm optimistic that we will get it. The village has responded and now that they can see that we are nearly there I am hoping to get a good final response."
ANALCCA has already raised £70,000 in a similar campaign. Altogether, £170,000 has been raised over the past five years.
If the group is successful in securing a lottery grant in March, £80,000 is all it will need to start work on the centre.
Mr Bratt said: "All it is now is a case of details, of finalising plans. If we have a good response in March from the lottery charity board and we can make a few bob, there's no reason that 2002 shouldn't see the work start."
