A MAN was hit around the head with a metal rod while a second attacker kicked him during an assault in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 37-year-old victim was left needing hospital treatment for deep cuts to the back of his neck and left ear.
The attack happened as he and another man, 35, walked along Gosport Road in Fareham, at around 2.50am.
They had exchanged words with three women walking on the opposite side of the dual carriageway when two other men suddenly appeared and assaulted the 37-year-old.
One of the attackers was carrying a telescopic metal rod, which he used to hit the victim, and the other kicked him during the assault, which lasted for only a few seconds.
Detectives are now appealing for the women, or anyone else who witnessed the attack, opposite the row of shops including One Stop and Tan Express, to get in touch.
Call Fareham CID on 0845 045 45 45, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
