Brondesbury 234 Teddington 184-7
Middlesex County League Division One
Despite a superb maiden century from their overseas player, Australian Matthew Stein (100 no), Brondesbury took only one point from a drawn game with Teddington at Harman Drive, Cricklewood, on Saturday.
The defending champions have managed only one win from their five games so far this season.
Winning the toss, Brondesbury were soon struggling at 13-3. But, on a turning wicket, Stein showed he was in a different class to the rest of the batsmen in this match, hitting two sixes and nine fours in his 184-ball innings.
Mark Lowrey gave good support with a fine 47 as he continued his good run of form with the bat.
At 101-5, they shared a stand of 99, before Lowrey was out lbw.
Stein remained unbeaten as Brondesbury totalled 234.
An untimely break for rain severely hindered the Brondesbury spinners, who found it difficult to grip the ball in the wet conditions.
Excellent batting by Jones (47) and Attfield (46) threatened to secure victory for Teddington.
But a ball change and excellent bowing by Lowrey (3-25), Stein (2-54) and Rob Nelson (2-32), backed by smart fielding ensured that Brondesbury managed a point as Teddington ended on 184-7.
More gloom on Sunday for Brondesbury as they crashed out of the National Cup in a comprehensive five-wicket defeat by Wanstead.
With Brondesbury in trouble at 13-2, Tommy Simpson (31) and Eddie Gladwin (23) rebuilt the innings. However, a succession of poor shots left them short of a good score in an innings that had been reduced to 38 overs following four interruptions for rain.
Having totalled only 153, Brondesbury saw their hopes of victory disappear in the third over, when Luke O'Reilly broke down with a hamstring injury.
This left Brondesbury needing to use four part-time bowlers to complete their allocation of overs.
In the circumtances, they did well to take the match to the 36th over, before Wanstead completed their victory.
