Bandito’s winning body of work

A DIGITAL effects company from Winchester has scooped an Emmy award at the 2008 Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards in New York.

Bandito won the award for its visual effects work on the National Geographic documentary Inside the Living Body.

The firm triumphed over four other documentaries nominated in the Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft: Graphic Design and Art Direction category.

Steven Gomez, managing director, pictured, said: “I was so shocked when they read out our name that I almost forgot to get up and collect the award. It was a fantastic but quite surreal experience. I floated up to the podium to make my speech.”

The documentary was made for US television and depicts the development and ageing of the human body over a number of years.

Bandito produced detailed graphics, manipulating real-life body scans to create a striking visual effect.

“We were able to depict the human body with levels of visual accuracy that have never been reached before,” Steven said.

The golden statuette will now take pride of place in Bandito’s offices at Winchester’s City Business Centre.

Steven said: “The project was a real challenge. But I’ve always believed in ‘staying with the problem’. I believe that tenacity is what won us the award.”
