TWO people have been taken to hospital after a cyclist collided with a pedestrian crossing the Itchen Bridge.

The accident happened today at 8.57am and the lane was closed for about an hour.

Both were treated at the scene by ambulance crews before being taken to Southampton General Hospital with minor injuries.

The cyclist was a man in his 40s and the pedestrian was a woman.

No arrests have been made.

This accident comes just a month after veteran cyclist Derek Witt was killed on the Southampton bridge.

Annoyingly some people just aint taking care on that bridge, whether they're driving, cycling or walking.

I got knocked off the bike last tuesday going into work. People just do not realise the damage they can cause (or set up) when they are not paying attention.

Also people dont realise how fast a modern cycle (combined with good fitness) can go, esp down hill!

Hope both parties involved recover

Another accident involving a cyclist.
I've advocated banning them from the city's streets on these pages before and it's about time something was done.
Every day I witness another reckless manouevre.

It doesnt sound to me that the cyclist in this case was to blame. Having had experience of riding up and down the bridge some pedestrians simply dont look.

You also simply cannot ban cycles. You might as well be asking to ban HGVs, or motorbikes... Every vehicle has its limitations and you ideally take those into account when using or moving around them.

I know how you feel. Cyclists don't bother me, but I keep advocating banning rapists, and still the sexual assualts keep happening. Ban all men, I say, just to make sure.

We can half road accidents that way as well. Bonus.

Careful what you write, it might come true, lol!

I presume the last part was intended as a joke but just incase anyone dim is reading this banning cyclists would reduce accidents by around 300 (incl 160 deaths iirc)...

...however banning cars would reduce deaths by thousands and put an end to 17,000 accidents a year
;-)
